When MBE began guaranteeing the flow numbers of every cylinder head sold, it caused quite a stir among our competitors. After all, MBE’s cylinder head designs already produced the highest flow numbers—and the most power—in the industry, but now every head was guaranteed to match that number or your money back. We found it interesting that about the same time other cylinder head specialists began telling their customers that flow numbers aren’t important, but that just isn’t true.

 

Owner Matt Bieneman learned first-hand just how important quality flow can be in terms of producing power while working on Joe Gibbs Racing’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series engine program between 1999 and 2001 as the Cylinder Head Department Manager. Bieneman saw then that every cfm of flow gained in a properly designed port was equal to one horsepower on the dyno. Discoveries in the porting room lead directly to better performance and checkered flags.
